This issue features many designers who are familiar from our previous issues and books: Jenny Ansah, Anna Johanna, Susanna Kaartinen, Tiia Reho and many others. But we are super happy to also introduce our international audience to talented designers such as Henna Ketonen, Lee Esselström, Henna Haarala and Laura Pajula & Liisa Saarenmaa, who (so far!) are better known only inside Finland.
Finnish Knits is a treat for sock lovers, as it features three lovely sock patterns. Ronja Hakalehto’s Taipale socks combine retro colours from Finnish nature with some traditional Finnish colourwork patterns, whereas the colourwork pattern of Henna Haarala’s Olga socks was inspired by traditional motifs in lace doilies. The Mielenrauha socks by Niina Laitinen feature a cable-and-lace pattern and knit up fast.
Many patterns in this issue have beautiful Finnish names: “vuokko” is the Finnish name for the anemone flower species, “nietos” is Finnish for “snowdrift”, and “Usva” means “mist” in Finnish. But Paula Narkiniemi, the designer of our cover knit, came up with the most fun pattern name: The Ridge Forrester sweater got its name from Paula’s childhood TV favourite, the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful!

“The knits came to life in Ekkulla, the old schoolhouse that Ninni and Rafael Donner have lovingly restored. The soft October light, large oak trees and our beautiful model, Virpi, made the photoshoot day truly memorable.”
