The first issue of Laine Magazine was published in 2016, and this year marks Laine’s 10th anniversary! Our special bookazine, Laine Anniversary Issue, features 23 knitwear patterns from international designers — designers who have contributed to Laine's journey over the last ten years. The bookazine is a celebration of Laine’s beloved Nordic aesthetics as well as contemporary knitwear design. Some patterns are fresh takes on classic Laine designs, others incorporate elements from the designers’ previous patterns for Laine, while the rest capture the spirit of Laine Magazine in their style.

Designers featured in this issue: Fiona Alice, Alma Bali, Aleks Byrd, Rachel Brockman, Weichien Chan, Maxim Cyr, Dee Hardwicke, Jonna Helin, Susanna Kaartinen, Bernice Lim, Justyna Lorkowska, Sari Nordlund, Marie Régnier, Tiia Reho, Camille Romano, Lis Smith, Orlane Sucche, Lene Tøsti, Maaike van Geijn, Sylvia Watts-Cherry and Julia Wilkens.

In this issue, some designers revisit their most beloved Laine patterns, creating new and unique versions of them. For example, Fiona Alice’s Järvimaa cardigan is a fresh take on her Lakeland sweater, originally published in Issue 4, and Sari Nordlund’s Poet skirt features the same lace pattern as her Poet sweater from Issue 6!
Sweaters, cardigans and vests — the patterns most loved by knitters — take centre stage in this issue, but it also features a few stunning accessory patterns, such as the delicate Caprifolium shawl by Lene Tøsti, as well as the Pinaceae Hat by Rachel Brockman (a nod to her Pinaceae sweater from Issue 9).
The knits are worked in a variety of techniques, from lace and cables to intarsia and stranded colourwork, as well as simple stockinette stitch. Aleks Byrd’s Pael vest showcases Estonian knitting techniques, such as the Roosimine Estonian Inlay, while Dee Hardwicke’s Wild Rose slipover incorporates intricate stitching on the knitted fabric.

“I’m very proud to be part of the anniversary issue. For me, Laine feels like a beautiful book rather than a magazine — its slow-living storytelling, fabulous print design and thoughtful styling resonate with me.”

— Knitwear designer Justyna Lorkowska
