Timeless fashion and modern practicality are at the core of Crochet Crush, the newest book from Molla Mills. The 23 crochet patterns include both ideas for home decor and accessories to brighten up your everyday life. The patterns in the book form a cohesive collection, making it easy for the reader to combine different patterns and change colours to fit their own personal taste. The sturdy crocheted fabric is best used for home textiles and accessories that need to take a lot of wear.
The designs have been influenced by current trends as well as the moods and aesthetics of past decades. Most importantly, however, they have been inspired by Molla’s journeys around the world. The designs showcase those vibrant colours of warmer climates, and almost all of the crocheted pieces are easy to pack and take with you on your own travels – even the pillows have handles.
“I find inspiration everywhere. I’m always picturing unique constructions, thinking about how to make everyday items and accessories more beautiful – whether they could be made in a new way and could they be made from yarn”, Molla explains.
Making things together is important for Molla. In her workshops she gets a lot of energy from other crocheters and also learns from them. Molla wants to encourage people to make their own everyday items using quality materials and to enjoy the slow process, instead of buying readymade things.
Molla Mills (born 1979) is an internationally known Finnish designer, who learned how to crochet from her mother as a little girl in Kurikka, Finland. She has studied fashion, marketing and art and has written several crochet books that have been published for instance in Brazil and in South Korea. Molla also designs pattern collections for different yarn brands and travels around the world teaching crochet workshops.
Crochet Crush, published by Laine Publishing, will be released on December 3, 2021 in English and in Finnish with the title Langankiertoja. Laine is a publishing house based in Tampere, Finland, known for internationally renowned knitting magazines and books. Now Laine is expanding their repertoire into the world of crochet.
