This issue’s photos were taken in Suomenlinna: an inhabited sea fortress in the Baltic Sea, just in front of Helsinki, the capital of Finland. They depict a lazy day spent by the sea — you can almost smell the salty air and feel the soft breeze in your hair!
Let your knitting bloom! This issue features not one but two designs that are decorated with flowers. The little embroidered buds in Marion Mursic’s Sea Salt hoodie are created using French knots, lazy daisy stitch and spider stitch, and Joey Poh’s In Bloom socks feature tiny flowers protected by a dainty trellis.
In the articles, we meet the Finnish knitwear designer Jenny Ansah who wants to bring a stronger sense of community to the world of handicrafts, and Maria Zeb Benjamin, the co-founder of The Wool Library: a grassroots organisation that celebrates British wool.

“The most interesting task for this issue was going through the results of our first-ever Laine Knitting Survey. We received over 4,433 responses from knitters from all over the world, and the best part was reading about all the positive effects of knitting in your lives. As one knitter said: ‘The beginning of a knitting project is like falling in love: you just can’t get enough of it and it is exciting.’ I couldn’t agree more!”
