Meet the designers for Laine Issue 25
In Laine Magazine 25, we present designs from twelve outstanding designers from around the world. Meet Audrey Borrego, Antonio Jesús Castillo Urquízar, Lindsey Fowler, Sus Gepard, Maria Gomes, Kaori Katsurada, Linda Lencovic, Lotta H Löthgren, Marina Storm, Maaike van Geijn, Imke von Nathusius and Marie-Ève Wedge.
Audrey Borrego

Audrey Borrego is based in the South West of France. She loves combining different techniques to create an engaging knitting experience and a balanced look. Audrey recently decided to stop designing professionally, so this will be her last pattern published in Laine Magazine for now — from here, she’ll continue to enjoy knitting as a hobby.
For this issue, Audrey designed the delicate Bleuet shawl inspired by cornflowers.
Antonio Jesús Castillo Urquízar

Antonio Jesús Castillo Urquízar is a knitwear designer and knitting instructor from Granada, Spain. He is inspired by nature, architecture, fashion and literature, and his designs often have a narrative and personal spirit, telling stories and conveying emotions. They feature versatile structures, refined techniques and subtle yet meaningful details.
For this issue, Antonio designed Francisca, a boxy top featuring a simple cable and lace pattern.
Lindsey Fowler

Lindsey Fowler currently lives in Ohio, USA. In addition to knitwear design, she is a supervisor in IT. Lindsey likes to combine texture with colour and create pieces that feel nostalgic and timeless. She is inspired by putting her own twist on classic shapes and designs. Lindsey loves the challenge of coming up with something that is unique but also intentional and not overly complicated.
For this issue, Lindsey designed the Shoaling socks with textured directional stripes.
Sus Gepard

Sus Gepard is a full-time knitwear designer and yarn creator, known as the founder of the yarn brand Gepard Garn. She lives in Copenhagen, Denmark. Sus’s ultimate goal is to design a sweater you can pull out of the closet after 30 years and your child wants to wear — a design that is timeless yet in tune with the trends of its time. Sus feels that good design comes from truly understanding the yarn.
For this issue, Sus designed Sea: a chic, oversized version of a classic T-shirt.
Maria Gomes

Maria Gomes lives in Maia, Portugal, and works with knitting in many fields: as a knitwear designer and knitting teacher, organizing knitting retreats, running an online knitting club and being the co-founder of a knitting festival. Knitting has been a part of her life since she was six years old, and it’s as essential to her as breathing. Maria loves designing casual pieces with little details that make them stand out.
For this issue, Maria designed the relaxed Ice Cream cardigan worked in fluffy lace-weight yarn.
Kaori Katsurada

Kaori Katsurada comes from Ishikawa, Japan. She is a knitwear designer and owns an online yarn shop called Amumu. Currently, Kaori is into simple and retro knit pieces, and she loves designs that feel inspired by a handmade lifestyle. Kaori’s best tip when working with summer knits is that lightness is key.
For this issue, Kaori designed Diǎnxīn: a cropped, frilled cardigan with puffy sleeves.
Linda Lencovic

Linda Lencovic is a Canadian living in the UK. As an artist and educator who has been dyeing yarns for more than a decade with her company, Kettle Yarn Co., her focus is on producing ethical British yarns that are a pleasure to work with, feel and wear. Linda is inspired by nature, the environment, and the times she lives in, with everything she sees and experiences reflected in her creative work.
For this issue, Linda designed Lumino, an oversized jumper that reimagines the classic raglan with a sporty twist.
Lotta H Löthgren

Lotta H Löthgren lives in the Swedish countryside and describes herself as a “full-time yarn aficionado”. Apart from designing knitwear, she runs the yarn shop Elk Market Yarn. Lotta loves experimenting and exploring the fibre crafts — knitting, hand spinning, dyeing — and prefers an eclectic approach rather than a consistent style.
For this issue, Lotta designed Gemstone: a lightweight, mid-size shawl perfect for sunny days.
Marina Storm

Marina Storm comes from Greece and currently lives in Germany. She is a full-time knitwear designer who also teaches knitting workshops, though her background is in journalism and translation. Marina loves playing with colour, movement and structure, always looking for ways to make knitting both engaging and intuitive.
For this issue, Maria designed the elegant yet wearable Kallos top featuring lace and stockinette stitch.
Maaike van Geijn
Maaike van Geijn lives in Schoorl, the Netherlands. Before knitwear design, she did her master's degree in theatre studies and worked as a curator in the theatre for many years. Maaike also teaches workshops at festivals and in yarn shops all over Europe and the Netherlands. Maaike looks for elegance in her designs but also likes her work to be playful, either in shape or colour.
For this issue, Maaike Doezel: a soft, colourful and diaphanous shawl that knits up quickly.
Imke von Nathusius

Imke von Nathusius lives in Düsseldorf, Germany. She studied fashion technology and design and worked in the garment industry for many years, but now she is a full-time knitwear designer. The look of Imke’s designs is deceptively simple. She often uses stockinette or garter stitch only, but there are always interesting techniques involved to keep the knitting process fun.
For this issue, Imke designed the Glow sweater combining casual elements with an elegant lace texture.
Marie-Ève Wedge

Marie-Ève Wedge comes from Eastern Canada and used to be a cellular and molecular biologist, but that career was put on hold when she moved to Italy. For the moment, she works in knitwear design and technical editing full-time. Marie-Ève loves designing socks and garments with botanical motifs, dainty details and interesting texture.
For this issue, Marie-Ève designed Orma: her idea of the perfect summer cardigan.
