Laine Magazine Issues 34 & 35 – Submission Call

Although summer is still in full swing, our thoughts are already turning to the cosy months ahead. We’re now inviting submissions for the autumn and winter 2027 issues of Laine Magazine — Issues 34 and 35.

For these two issues, we’re looking for designs that feel confident in their own identity. A striking silhouette, an elegant construction or a beautifully balanced texture can be just as captivating as an intricate stitch pattern. We believe great knitwear doesn't have to be complicated — often it's the thoughtful, well-executed ideas that leave the strongest impression.

We’re especially interested in sweaters, cardigans, jackets, slipovers and warm accessories, as well as layering pieces that transition effortlessly through the colder months. Wool will naturally take centre stage, but we also welcome creative fibre combinations and interesting textures that bring warmth, softness and character to a design.

As ever, Laine designs should be a joy from start to finish — engaging to knit and a pleasure to wear. We’re looking for projects that draw you in, keep your needles moving late into the evening and make you eager to cast on another the moment you bind off. These are the kinds of knits that feel like instant classics.

Deadlines

The submission call runs until September 6, 2026. We will notify all selected designers as soon as possible.

Please note: The samples for the winter issue will be due before the patterns, as we hope to photograph the issue during the Finnish winter.

Laine 34

  • Samples due by March 8, 2027.

  • Finished, test knitted patterns due by March 1, 2027.

  • Released at the end of August 2027.

Compensation

Compensation is based on difficulty. Compensation is paid as soon as we have received the sample and the finished, test knitted pattern and tech editing is completed. Yarn support is organised by Laine in collaboration with yarn companies.
Laine holds the exclusive rights to the patterns for 5 months (beginning from the publication day of the magazine). After the exclusivity period, designers are free to sell the pattern on their own as well.

How to submit

Multiple submissions are warmly welcomed; please include all proposals in a single pdf file.

We accept original designs only. Designs, patterns and related images—including work-in-progress and finished-project photos—must not have been previously published or shared elsewhere.

Please include:

  • Your name

  • Website, social media and/or Ravelry username (if applicable)

  • A detailed description of your design

  • Preferred yarn

  • A sketch

  • A swatch

  • An estimate of any charts required

As this is a print publication with limited page space, please keep charts concise. As a guideline, one page can accommodate a chart of approximately 50 x 50 boxes.

We would also love to hear the story behind your design: what inspired it, how it reflects your creative vision and why you feel it belongs in this issue.

Previous publication experience is not required. We are proud to feature both established and emerging designers, and our experienced editorial team provides support throughout the process.

We welcome submissions from around the world and from designers of all backgrounds. Every submission will be carefully reviewed and thoughtfully considered.
