Supporting Women: Seela Sweater
Knitting needles are a powerful tool. They don’t only empower us to create garments, keep us warm and calm our minds, they also allow us to generate a lot of good. In our latest efforts, together with the knitting community, we were able to raise over 10k to help the people in Ukraine, and now we are picking up our needles to support women!
To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Finnish Women’s Bank, we designed a new sweater pattern, Seela, to raise funds together to support female entrepreneurship in developing countries. A woman’s poverty impacts the whole family. But by gaining access to education and income, the positive impact on her family, and furthermore the community, is immediate. Through volunteers, donations and corporate partners, Women’s Bank supports the education, livelihoods and entrepreneurship of women in vulnerable countries.
This sweater is a light multipurpose knit that is great for springtime. It’s knitted top-down in one piece with raglan increases with the raglan “seams” being deeper than usual, and with large needle size, it’s a fairly quick project for anyone to make. The Seela sweater is knitted with Sandnes Garn Børstet Alpakka, which is a slightly fuzzy, brushed alpaca yarn. With the extensive colour chart of Børstet Alpakka, everyone can adapt the suggested colours according to their own taste.
By purchasing the pattern, you are able to help as all proceeds from the pattern sales will go directly to support the efforts of Women’s Bank. You can find the pattern in our webstore and on Ravelry. The campaign will continue till the end of 2022.
