Knit Pop: Designs for the Modern Maker

Knit Pop: Designs for the Modern Maker is a bold and vibrant collection of 16 inventive knitting patterns that bring color and creativity to your wardrobe. From a fluffy one-shoulder sweater to a lacy wrap skirt that doubles as a top, each piece is designed to be both stylish and wearable.

Amabile

Amabile by Miki Teragaki from Knit Pop

Decorative brioche increases and decreases create beautiful lines in this cozy muffler. The pattern is versatile: Amabile turns into a skinny scarf if you work the ribbing section longer and the brioche body shorter.

Yarn: Fleck by Woolfolk, colourway F6 (muffler) and F2 (skinny scarf).

Animato

Animato by Miki Teragaki from Knit Pop

This engaging top-down sweater may take time and patience to complete, but it is well worth the effort. Intricate cable patterns, long ribbed cuffs, balloon sleeves and hem slits create a stunning design.

Yarn: Shelter by Brooklyn Tweed, colourway Fossil.

Aria

Aria by Miki Teragaki from Knit Pop

Aria’s rhythmic lace pattern is meditative to knit. I designed this piece as a wrap skirt, but later realized it would also look cute worn as a top wrapped around the body or on the shoulders as a shawl! Choose between a longer and shorter version.

Yarn: Wanderlust Linen by Amirisu, colourway Iceland (long version) and Antarctica (short version).

Bolero

Bolero by Miki Teragaki from Knit Pop

Bolero is a charming cape that is worked in an all-over twisted ribbing pattern. It features a high collar and a neat, scalloped hem that is created with short rows. It is the perfect knit to add flair to your everyday look!

Yarn: Santi 1 by Illimani, colourway Neutral.

Brillante

Brillante by Miki Teragaki from Knit Pop

This design was inspired by the speckled, pink bouclé yarn from James Makes Yarn. It reminded me of small plush toys I loved collecting as a child. Brillante can be worn as a vest or a large shawl — find your favorite style!

Yarn: DK Boucle by James Makes Yarn, colourway Beanie Babies, and Sprint by Amirisu, colourway Torte (boucle version). Mokeko by Sekimau Knits, colourway Soft Neon Lemon Yellow, (held double) and Neon Neps Fingering by Sekimau Knits, colourway Gray (suri version).

Capriccioso

Capriccioso by Miki Teragaki from Knit Pop

Capriccioso is a modern, stylish cable sweater knit sideways. The spacing between the cable turns can be modified to make the design truly yours. Enjoy getting creative as you knit this eye-catching piece!

Yarn: Jensen by Isager, colourway 29s and Silk Mohair by Isager, colourway 67.

Do Re Mi

DoReMi by Miki Teragaki from Knit Pop

These DK-weight mittens, worked in a combination of cables and textures, are as fun to wear as they are to knit. Imagine Do Re Mi’s eight-stitch cable as a musical scale — you might feel like singing as you make this snug pair!

Yarn: Shelter by Brooklyn Tweed, colourway Fossil.

Dolce

Dolce by Miki Teragaki from Knit Pop

For this design, I have combined some of my favorite things — ribbons, frills and fluff — to add a little extra to your wardrobe. Knit Dolce in bright colors or create a chic one-tone piece that goes with any outfit.

Yarn: Felix by La Bien Aimée, colourway Anemone; Merino Bouclé by La Bien Aimée, colourway Tuileries; Kumo by La Bien Aimée, colourway Lush; Wensley Worsted by La Bien Aimée, colourway Hella.

Duo

This simple triangular shawl features adorable stripes, Garter stitch and a charming ruffled edge. The look transforms entirely depending on the colors you choose — have fun picking yours!

Yarn: BFL Singles by Perroquet Parle, colourways Strawberry Sorbet and Coffee Ice Cream.

Grazioso

Grazioco by Miki Teragaki from Knit Pop

This bottom-up, cropped sweater features large, ruffled sleeves, making it a true stunner! Choose a soft and drapey yarn for the perfect look — for example, a combination of merino and silk mohair works great.

Yarn: Line Weight by Purl Soho, colourway True Turquoise and Silk Mohair by Isager, colourway 44.

Legato

Legato by Miki Teragaki from Knit Pop

This fluffy one-shoulder sweater was the very first design I envisioned when I began working on this book. It is a quick, chunky knit worked with two yarns held together and can be worn with the sleeve on either side.

Yarn: Big Kumo by La Bien Aimée, colourway Loam and Helix by La Bien Aimée, colourway Jonna.

Lullaby

Lullaby by Miki Teragaki from Knit Pop

When I started knitting, I discovered a 40-year-old sweater my mother had made — and instantly fell in love with it and its i-cord cables! For Lullaby, I redesigned this knit, adding my own twist to it. You can see the inspiration for this design on page 6.

Yarn: German Merino Light by Mominoki Yarn, colourways Ocean and Pure White.

Melody

Melody by Miki Teragaki from Knit Pop

The names of my designs are often inspired by music, which has always played a big role in my life. The stitch pattern in this top-down sweater resembles a musical staff. While the yoke features wide stripes, the body and balloon sleeves are worked in brioche.

Yarn: Fingering Singled by The Wandering Flock, colourway Peach Melba and Mohair Lace by The Wandering Flock, colourway Neon Coral.

Menuet

Menuet by Miki Teragaki from Knit Pop

Menuet is a triangular lace shawl with an elegant scalloped edge. While the sample was made in DK-weight, you could also use sport- or fingering-weight yarns if preferred — just keep in mind that this affects yardage.

Yarn: Priestess by Ritual Dyes, colourways Portulaca, Rhodonite and Jadeite.

Ode to Joy

Playing the piano is something I love to do together with my boys. I designed these cool cuffs to wear while we play Ode to Joy from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. They not only look adorable but also keep your wrists warm.

Yarn: Ulysse by De Rerum Natura, colourway Bouleau.

Waltz

Waltz by Miki Teragaki from Knit Pop

A cape that makes you feel like dancing the waltz! This adorable accessory is worked in hand-dyed DK-weight yarn from the bottom up and features a gorgeous ruffled hem with a picot stitch edge.

Yarn: Merino DK by La Bien Aimée, colourway The North (dark version) and Merino DK by Lemon Jelly Pool, colourway Gem Castle (light pink version).
