Pattern Previews for Strands of Joy Vol. II
Strands of Joy Vol. II by Anna Johanna contains 17 knitting patterns ranging from sweaters and cardigans to accessories. The designs feature big colorwork patterns and untreated wool yarn.
Damask Fabric
This sweater is worked top down seamlessly. The sweater has a round yoke with damask colorwork and a bit more colorwork on the hem. But the showstopper is the bigger pattern featured center front.
Yarn: Jalovilla Vuona (100% Finnsheep, single ply, non-SW, 205 m / 50 g) in colors Ruoste (MC) and Tuhka (CC).
Beware the Frogs
These mittens are worked in double knitting. It makes them completely reversible, and the double layer is great for keeping your fingers warm in winter.
Yarn: Isager Highland Wool (100% non-SW wool, 275 m / 50 g) in colors Soil (MC) and Moss (CC).
Berry Bushes
Berry Bushes is an oversized cardigan with color-blocking on the waist. The cardigan is worked flat, seamlessly from the top down. It has long raglan sleeves and a boxy shape with no waist shaping. The waist has a beautiful leaf pattern after which the colors are switched, and the hem will be worked with a different color.
Yarn: De Rerum Natura Ulysse (100% non-SW merino, 185 m / 50 g) in colors Genet (MC) and Amarante (CC).
Scented Erasers
Scented Erasers is a pair of fingerless mittens with an Indian thumb gusset, and the top ribbing worn folded over.
Yarn: Permin Esther (55% wool, 45% cotton, non-SW, 230 m / 50 g) in colors Cassis (MC) and Beige (CC).
Bubbles and Giggles
This little sweater is worked top down, seamlessly, and has a round yoke with a sweet bubble pattern. The sweater has short sleeves and a cropped hem. The ribbings feature a little i-cord detail worked with the contrast color.
Yarn: Hjelholts Uldspinderi Merinogarn 10/2 (100% non-SW merino, 500 m / 100 g) in colors Light Grey (MC) and Black (CC).
Compass Rose
Compass Rose is a relaxed boxy sweater with a fun colorwork pattern on the hem. The sweater is worked top down, seamlessly. It has ¾-length sleeves, a V-neck and a wide boxy shape with no waist shaping.
Yarn: Sandnes Garn Tynn Peer Gynt (100% non-SW wool, 205 m / 50 g) in colors 7281 (MC), 1021 (CC1) and 4672 (CC2).
Crocodile Line
Crocodile Line is a relaxed cardigan worked flat top down. The cardigan features alternating simple colorwork stripes and paired back cables that are separated by neat i-cords.
Yarn: Retrosaria Brusca (50% merino, 50% wool, non-SW, 125 m / 50 g) in colors C579 (MC), A575 (CC1) and C571 (CC2).
Deep Roots
This sweater is worked top down seamlessly. It starts with a tall cowl neck worked in two-color brioche and continues with a round yoke adorned with a plant colorwork pattern that has roots that go deep into the hem and sleeves. The design has long sleeves with the cuffs being worked in two-color brioche.
Yarn: Les Garçons Hand-Dyed British DK (75% BFL, 25% Masham, non-SW, 240 m / 100 g) in colors Carmen’s Story (MC), Remy’s Peach (CC1), Jill’s Dusty Rose (CC2) and Rose-Anne’s First Knit (CC3).
Fox Den
This cardigan is worked seamlessly top down in the round. The cardigan has a round yoke with an enchanting spruce pattern. The showstopper, though, is the giant fox at center back. The cardigan has a folded turtleneck and long sleeves with more spruces at the cuff.
Yarn: NervusFibre Corriedale Sport (100% Corriedale, non-SW, 300 m / 100 g), in colors Camp Ivanhoe (MC) and Mistcloak (CC). Note, the yarn used for the sample is heavier than regular sport weight and the yardage in the skeins can also vary. Thus, the skeins and the yardage required have been calculated based on 200 m / 100 g. When substituting, look for aran weight yarns.
70s Funk
These knee-high socks are worked toe up. The socks have a French heel and the gusset increases are worked at the center of the sole.
Yarn: John Arbon Textile Exmoor Sock 4ply (30% Exmoor Horn, 30% BFL, 20% Corriedale, 10% Zwartbles, 10% nylon, SW-treated, 200 m / 50 g) in colors Drumble (MC) and Blooth (CC).
Garden Lupin
Garden Lupin is a relaxed, boxy cardigan with lupine-inspired colorwork and nupps. The cardigan is worked seamlessly top down. It has long sleeves with the cuffs worked with the contrast color. The hem is cropped and has no waist shaping.
Yarn: Tukuwool Fingering (100% Finnish wool, non-SW, 2-ply, 370 m / 100 g) in colors Manna (MC) and Hot Pink (CC).
Rascal Spirit
Rascal Spirit is a cute, relaxed, over-sized pullover with a warm, tall turtleneck. The sweater is worked top down seamlessly. It has raglan sleeves, and the raglan seams are decorated with little leaves. The hem has both lace and colorwork on it. The showstopper, of course, is the sweetest little raccoon with its paw prints all over the place.
Yarn: John Arbon Textiles Devonia DK (50% Exmoor Horn, 30% BFL, 20% Wensleydale, non-SW,233 m / 100 g) in colors Sage Sprig (MC), Devonia Cream (CC1) and Cinder Glow (CC2).
Grandma’s Pearls
These mid-calf socks are worked cuff down. The socks come with a Fleegle heel, and the heel increases are worked at center back.
Yarn: Retrosaria Mondim (100% Portuguese wool, non-SW, 385 m / 100 g), in colors 117 (MC) and 109 (CC).
Like a Ram
Like a Ram is a comfy cardigan with a generous amount of positive ease. The cardigan is worked top down flat and features a wide shawl collar. The cardigan has an easy all-over colorwork pattern but if you are up for a challenge, you can work the glorious ram head at center back.
Yarn: WoolDreamers Manchelopis (100% non-SW Manchega wool, unspun, double-stranded, 230 m / 100 g) in colors Azul (MC) and Blanco (CC).
Manual Labor
This sweater is worked top down seamlessly. The sweater has a round yoke with a gear-themed colorwork. The sweater has ¾-length sleeves and a slight A-line on the hem.
Yarn: Woollentwine Shetland/Romney 4ply (50% Shetland, 50% Romney, non-SW, 350 m / 100 g) in colors Light Beige (MC) and Mahogany (CC).
Vines and Ladders
This cowl is worked seamlessly in the round. The cowl uses a sport weight wool yarn for the main color and a sport weight wool yarn held together with lace weight silk-mohair for contrast color to give it a special feel and look.

Vintage Flannel
This sweater is worked top down seamlessly. It has an all-over plaid colorwork pattern with a big ‘Knit’ text on the front. The sleeves are raglan sleeves, and the hem is cropped. And there’s a little surprise at the back!
