Our lovely spring issue, Laine 24, Brushstrokes, is full of creative energy and soft, joyous spring colours! The photos were taken in an artist’s studio, in all its vibrant, inspiring chaos, and a lush, green park with old deciduous trees and quiet pathways. The knits are delicate, feminine and refined, featuring beautiful textures and interesting techniques.

Designers featured in this issue: Julia Exner, Reetta Haavisto, Sophie Hemmings, Heidi Kästner, Rebekka Mauser, Cheryl Mokhtari, Paula Pereira, Sarah Solomon, Veera Välimäki, Vivian Wei, Julia Wilkens and Rui Yamamuro.

Rui Yamamuro from Laine Maazine 24
One word that sums up the designs of this issue is definitely “refined” — they feature so many clever finishes and details! For example, Julia Exner’s Reversi cardigan has no visible seams: if you add buttons on both sides, you get a fully reversible garment. Sophie Hemmings’ Selsey is a highly textured sweater with an engaging stitch pattern and lots of detail in the shaping.
Many of our spring issue’s knits were influenced by nature: all those trees and flowers starting to bloom. The Hiekassa sweater by Reetta Haavisto has subtle flower details at the neck and wrists, inspired by the delicate flowers that grow in the sand. Sarah Solomon’s Thuja sweater has a leafy, tree-like lace motif — “thuja” is the name for a variety of evergreen trees.
We also have a few treats for those looking for a smaller project! Veera Välimäki’s Blue Hour socks feature a simple lace pattern that creates more of a texture surface than decoration. And Vivian Wei’s cute Flores collar is a lovely way to add something special to an otherwise simple outfit!

We started the photoshoot at artist Saija Starr’s studio. The sunlight streamed perfectly into the space, which, in its charmingly artistic chaos, was incredibly inspiring. And I mean ‘chaos’ in the most positive way!”

Elisa Koskinen, one of the models in this issue’s knitwear photos

“When I met Isabel and Nick Renter two years ago, I found their passion and enthusiasm infectious. As a fan of their beautiful yarn, I’m delighted to have been able to share their inspiring story

Nicole Bilson, who wrote the story about the Australian GOR Woollen Mill.
