Come Knit Scarborough Sweater With Us!
Choose your colours, gather your yarn and come knit with us! The Scarborough Knit-Along begins on Saturday, 12 September, and we would love you to join.
Designed by Jonna Helin, Scarborough is a relaxed, top-down raglan sweater with a cosy turtleneck, generous ease and a wonderfully light, soft fabric. But one of our favourite things about this design is the way it plays with colour.
Create Your Own Colour
Scarborough is knitted holding three strands together: one strand of Laine x Novita 4ply and two strands of Novita Edith Silk Mohair. The two mohair strands are worked in different colours, so instead of simply choosing a colour for your sweater, you get to create one.
“I love what happens when those three shades meet,” Jonna says. “Sometimes the result is exactly what you imagined. Sometimes a tiny strand of mohair changes everything. And sometimes the combinations that look a little strange as three separate balls of yarn turn into the most beautiful fabric.”
For her first Scarborough, Jonna combined Pine Forest with Grove and Poet, creating the soft, misty green seen in the pattern photographs. Her second version is darker and moodier, bringing together Winter Black, Sin and Touch to create a deep, earthy shade.
And the third one?
“I still haven’t decided,” Jonna admits. “I have a few ideas and an ever-growing pile of yarn waiting to be tried together, but I think I’m going to let myself play for a little longer.”
Tonal and quiet, bright and playful or dark and dramatic, there is no single right way to knit a Scarborough. Try holding different shades together, make a few swatches and see what happens. The combination you fall in love with might be the one you would never have planned.
How to Join
We will cast on together on Saturday, 12 September, and the KAL runs until 30 November 2026, giving you plenty of time to finish your sweater.
Share your yarn choices, progress and finished Scarborough on Instagram using #scarboroughkal, and tag @laine_magazine so we can follow along.
Everyone who finishes their Scarborough by the deadline and shares a photo of the finished sweater will be entered into a prize draw. The prizes include:

The Scarborough pattern is available in the Laine Anniversary Issue. To make choosing your yarn a little easier, we have also created a Scarborough Knitting Kit, which includes the yarn needed for your chosen size in the colour combination of your choice.
Simply choose one shade of Laine x Novita 4ply and two shades of Novita Edith Silk Mohair, then get ready to cast on.
