Laine x Novita – A New Yarn Story Begins

Some yarns are born from trend forecasts, seasonal palettes or production schedules.
This one was born from memory, experience – and a quiet dream I’ve carried for years.
Last spring, I received a message that made my heart skip a beat. It was from Novita, the iconic Finnish yarn company that has been part of my life since I first picked up needles.


They asked: Would you like to create a yarn together?
The answer came from the deepest part of me – yes.

Novita was the yarn I learned to knit with as a child, sitting beside my mum and grandmothers. It’s the yarn that has wrapped itself around my life, in handmade socks, sweaters and the kind of warmth that spans generations. Saying yes to this collaboration felt like closing a circle – and beginning something entirely new.

Together with Novita and West Yorkshire Spinners, a historic mill in England, we began crafting what would become Laine x Novita, a yarn that reflects everything I love and believe in: character, structure, natural fibres, deep colour and emotional connection. We tested twists and blends. We created a colour palette inspired by landscapes and memories that live in my heart.

The result? Two yarn weights, DK and fingering (4ply), spun in Yorkshire from British Bluefaced Leicester, Bluefaced Kerry Hill and Falkland wool.

The DK-weight was love at first touch. The fingering version took two tries to get just right.
And the first colour we tested? A soft olive green, now called Earthy Olive.
When I opened the box and saw those skeins, I got goosebumps. I wept.
And I smiled so wide it hurt.

A few weeks ago, we returned to Yorkshire to film a short documentary about the making of this yarn. We also photographed a lookbook on the moors, in the village where the Brontë sisters once lived. It was misty, wild, beautiful – and full of meaning. Every step of this journey has made me more grateful than I can say.

This yarn isn’t just a product. It’s a story you can hold in your hands.
And soon, it will be in yours.
